Aigai (Aeolis) – Yunusemre, Manisa

Aigai is one of the 12 Aeolian cities, situated on Mount Yunt. Its name, meaning "Land of Goats," points to the city's geography and economy (livestock, leather, wool). It flourished in the Hellenistic period with the support of the Kingdom of Pergamon.

The city features impressive architecture built on terraces adapted to the rugged terrain.

Highlights:

  • Agora Building: This three-story, 80-meter-long structure is the city's most magnificent ruin. Its masonry is exquisite.
  • Bouleuterion (Council House): The administrative center of the city.
  • Theatre: Located at a point commanding a view of the landscape.
  • Roads: Ancient paved roads remain intact to this day.
