Panionium – Güzelçamlı, Aydın
Panionium was the meeting center and sanctuary of the Ionian League (Panionia), formed by 12 Ionian cities. It is located at the foot of Mount Mycale (Samsun Dağı), near the borders of the Dilek Peninsula National Park.
Rather than a city, this was an assembly and temple area where festivals were held and league decisions were made.
Highlights:
- Altar of Poseidon Heliconius: An altar dedicated to Poseidon, the patron of the league.
- Council Place (Bouleuterion): An area with theatre-like seating where representatives of the 12 cities gathered.
