Mopsuestia (Misis) – Yüreğir, Adana
Mopsuestia is a strategic city founded on the banks of the Ceyhan River, along the historic Silk Road. According to legend, it was founded by Mopsus, a hero of the Trojan War. Throughout history, it has been under Hittite, Roman, Byzantine, Crusader, and Ottoman rule.
Highlights:
- Misis Bridge: A historic Roman bridge over the Ceyhan River. Legend has it that Lokman Hekim dropped the elixir of immortality while crossing this bridge.
- Misis Mosaic Museum: A museum displaying floor mosaics depicting Noah's Ark and animals, excavated from a basilica in the city.
