Lagina Hekate Sanctuary – Turgut, Yatağan

Lagina Hekate Sanctuary – Turgut, Yatağan (Muğla)

Lagina was the principal sanctuary of Hekate in Caria, linked to Stratonikeia by a sacred processional way. Rebuilt in the Hellenistic period (Seleucid/Rhodes eras), the precinct features a Corinthian Temple of Hekate with famous friezes (gigantomachy, Amazonomachy, foundation myths), a propylon, altar, stoas, and festival infrastructure. The annual Hekate processions (kleidos agoge) underscored Lagina’s ritual bond with Stratonikeia, while inscriptions attest to vibrant religious and civic life into the Roman period.
