Labraunda – Milas, Muğla
Labraunda is the most important sanctuary of Caria. It is located in the mountains north of Milas. It is dedicated to Zeus Labraundos (Zeus of the Double Axe). It experienced its golden age during the reign of the Carian Satrap Maussollos and his brother Idrieus.
The sanctuary features impressive structures built on terraces.
Highlights:
- Temple of Zeus: The center of the sanctuary.
- Androns: Special structures with windows and niches where banquets were held (Andron A and B).
- Stadium: Area used for ceremonies.
- Tombs: Monumental royal tombs.
