Kanlıdivane (Ancient Kanytelis) – Erdemli, Mersin
Kanlıdivane, ancient Kanytelis, is a settlement built around a massive sinkhole (dolmen) on the Erdemli plateau. In the Roman and Byzantine periods, basilicas, tower tombs, rock-cut tombs, inscriptions, and cisterns clustered around the chasm; the natural pit was used in stories as an execution place. The site links inland Cilicia with the coast (Korykos) and formed part of an early Christian landscape with multiple basilicas and funerary monuments.
