Kaunos – Dalyan, Muğla
Kaunos, on the Dalyan River estuary, was a Carian city later Hellenized. Landmarks include the Lycian-style rock-cut tombs along the cliffs, a theater overlooking the delta, Roman baths, agora, Harbor Basilica, acropolis (Imbros Hill), and city walls. The silting of the bay shifted its harbor inland over time. Kaunos’ mixed Carian/Lycian culture and maritime trade are reflected in its inscriptions and coinage.
