The theater dates back to the 2nd century AD. In ancient sources, the city of Vize (Byzia) was one of the most significant settlements in Thrace. The remains of the cavea (seating rows), orchestra, and skene (stage building) are still visible today.

The theater was uncovered through archaeological excavations conducted between 1995 and 1997. Although partly in ruins, much of the seating and the orchestra area remain intact, making it an important reference for the study of Roman theater architecture in Thrace.
