Şar (Kommana/Komanos) – Tufanbeyli, Adana
Şar preserves the remains of Kommana in Cappadocia (later Comana Chryse), famed for its ancient temple-state economy tied to the goddess Ma. In the Roman era it was reestablished as Hieropolis-Castabala (often distinguished from Çukurova Comana). The site at Şar includes temple podium ruins, Roman theater, colonnaded street fragments, bridges/aqueduct traces, and necropolis areas. Its sacred and commercial functions along mountain routes illustrate how Anatolian cult centers evolved under Rome and Byzantium.
