Hasankeyf – Batman, Türkiye
Hasankeyf on the Tigris was inhabited for millennia, with cliffs honeycombed by rock-cut dwellings, caves, and citadel ruins. Medieval remains include Artuqid/Kurdish bridges, Great Mosque, small palace, and carved tombs. The site’s riverbank monuments (e.g., the old bridge piers) and cliff-top fort were iconic; many were relocated or submerged with the Ilısu Dam, while a new cultural park preserves selected monuments.
